Deputies reached Margaret’s cabin at 6:12 p.m.
The place was empty.
A laptop remained on the kitchen table.
A printer still held warm paper.
Draft statements.
Emily suffered postpartum psychosis.
Emily endangered the baby.
Margaret intervened.
Lauren tried to help.
No heat packs mentioned.
No sedative.
No delay.
A guardianship petition named Margaret as temporary custodian of Noah if he survived.
The petition was prepared before the incident.
Two days before Noah was born.
Detectives found a second folder.
Life insurance.
A policy on Noah’s life.
Beneficiary: Miller Family Holdings.
Signed by Margaret as trustee.
The policy should never have been issued without parental consent.
Calvin Price arranged it through a private broker.
Another document contained Emily’s forged signature.
The cabin search exposed conspiracy.
Still, Margaret and Lauren were missing.
Then Ethan received a voicemail from Lauren.
She was crying.
“Mom said it wasn’t supposed to go that far.”
Harper traced the call.
A motel outside Asheville.
Police arrived twenty minutes later.
Lauren surrendered.
Margaret had already left.
Lauren confessed partially.
She said Margaret only wanted to make Emily look unstable.
The heat packs were supposed to create a fever that proved neglect.
The sedative would explain Emily’s collapse.
Then Margaret would take Noah to the hospital and claim she rescued him.
But Emily fought.
The blanket stayed wrapped too long.
Noah’s temperature climbed.
Margaret panicked.
Instead of calling for help, she called Price.
Every minute of delay became another choice.
Lauren insisted she never wanted Noah to die.
Harper asked, “Did you remove the blanket?”
“No.”
“Did you call 911?”
“No.”
“Did you stop your mother?”
Silence.
