Chapter 7 - Daniel’s Recording Captured What Bethany Said After Leaving the Bathroom
The most important part of Daniel’s footage happened four minutes before I found Rosie.
Bethany returned to the dining room alone.
Her breathing was slightly heavy.
She sat down.
Daniel asked:
“Where’s Rosie?”
Bethany took a bite of cake.
“Cooling off.”
My mother laughed.
My father asked:
“Did she finally stop screaming?”
Bethany replied:
“She will.”
Daniel lowered the phone slightly.
“What did you do?”
Bethany’s face changed.
“Nothing she won’t survive.”
That sentence ended any argument that she thought Rosie was happily participating.
Daniel said:
“That’s not funny.”
Bethany snapped:
“Don’t start.”
Then my mother intervened.
“She needs to learn she can’t run to Daddy every time someone tells her no.”
My father added:
“He’ll be home soon. Let her calm down first.”
So they knew I was coming.
They knew Rosie was upset.
And their priority was not checking the child.
It was making sure she looked calm before I saw her.
Then another detail appeared.
Bethany rubbed her fingers together and said:
“She bruises ridiculously easily.”
I stopped the video.
Rewound.
Played it again.
There.
She already knew marks were forming.
That destroyed the last possible claim that she thought nothing physical had happened.
She knew.
