Chapter 9 - Javier Tried to Claim Dante Started It
Of course he did.
By the time his lawyer contacted mine, Javier had already built a version of the story where I was the violent one.
He claimed Leo had wandered too close to the grill area and nearly fallen near a hot surface. He insisted he had only been “restraining” him for safety when I overreacted and attacked him without warning.
Then he said the shove into the buffet and the kick into the grill had caused his injuries.
Technically, that part was true.
But then came the security footage.
The Romano estate had exterior cameras across the backyard, patio, and side gates. Most of the confrontation unfolded partially obscured by guests and tables, but one angle captured enough.
It showed Leo backing away.
It showed Javier grabbing him first.
It showed my children frightened.
It showed the force he used.
And it showed clearly that after I shoved him away from my son, Javier got back up and came at me again before I kicked him.
His lawyer’s tone changed after that.
So did Javier’s.
He stopped sounding offended.
He started sounding desperate.
Because now the papers, the audit trail, and the footage were all telling the same story.
