Chapter 6 - VICTORIA’S CHOICE
Victoria surrendered three days later.
She walked into the federal courthouse with two attorneys and a locked metal case.
Inside were ledgers, account keys, and recordings gathered over a decade.
She requested immunity.
The government refused full immunity.
She offered testimony anyway.
Sarah watched through one-way glass as Victoria described her marriage.
Charles controlled her movements.
Monitored her calls.
Used medication to keep her compliant during public events.
Threatened her younger brother.
She had also benefited.
Homes.
Money.
Power.
Access.
Victoria did not call herself a victim without also calling herself an accomplice.
That honesty made her useful.
She revealed the location of an abandoned Vale Meridian data center in rural New York.
Harrison had been held there after his disappearance.
Sarah stood.
“Held?”
Victoria looked at her through the glass.
“He was alive when I last saw him.”
“When?”
“Six weeks ago.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because Charles had someone watching you. If I contacted you, he would move Harrison.”
“You came to my door.”
“Because the drive activated.”
“What happened after that?”
Victoria’s expression tightened.
“I lost access.”
Federal agents raided the data center.
They found restraints.
Blood traces.
A damaged camera.
Harrison’s wedding ring.
No body.
No living prisoner.
Security logs showed a helicopter landing four days earlier.
Charles owned three helicopters.
All flight records had been altered.
The search expanded.
Victoria provided a hidden audio file recorded during her final meeting with Harrison.
His voice was weak.
“Why the doll?” she asked him.
“Because Chloe remembers promises.”
“You are putting her in danger.”
“She is already in danger.”
“Sarah will hate you.”
“She should.”
“Do you think this saves you?”
“No.”
A long silence followed.
Then Harrison said:
“It might save them.”
The recording ended.
Sarah listened twice.
She did hate him.
For keeping Victoria secret.
For making Chloe a courier.
For turning their marriage into part truth and part shield.
But she also heard something she had not expected.
Harrison never believed the evidence would absolve him.
