Charles Vale was arrested at a charity gala.
Cameras captured him smiling as agents approached.
He continued smiling while they placed him in handcuffs.
Vale Meridian stock collapsed within hours.
News networks called it the largest philanthropic fraud scandal in decades.
Politicians returned donations.
Board members resigned.
Hospitals suspended contracts.
Families of foster children filed lawsuits.
Charles denied everything.
He claimed Victoria and Harrison had created the scheme together.
His attorneys produced documents showing Harrison approved transactions.
The signatures were real.
Harrison had signed them while working undercover inside the company.
Without context, they made him look guilty.
The prosecution needed Harrison alive.
Or a complete record showing his intent.
The third card contained only the threat recording.
Not enough.
Then Leah examined the doll itself.
The button eyes were not identical.
One contained a tiny camera lens.
The internal memory was damaged but recoverable.
The doll had recorded portions of its journey.
Postal rooms.
Storage facilities.
A man opening the package.
Victoria retrieving it.
Most importantly, a ten-second clip showed Harrison placing the bundle inside the doll.
He was not in the data center.
He was in a small room with green tile and a circular window.
A foghorn sounded in the background.
Sarah recognized the lighthouse postcard.
Investigators mapped coastal facilities owned by Vale Meridian.
One property matched.
An old marine research station in Maine.
Federal agents reached it before dawn.
They found Harrison locked in a maintenance room beneath the lighthouse.
Alive.
Dehydrated.
Injured.
But alive.
Sarah was not allowed to see him immediately.
He required surgery.
He had a fractured rib, infected wound, and signs of prolonged restraint.
For two days, she waited.
Chloe colored pictures at the safe house.
Victoria remained in custody.
Charles remained silent.
When Harrison finally woke, Grant asked whether he could identify his captors.
Harrison whispered one name.

Victoria.
Sarah’s heart stopped.
