Chapter 10 - Vanessa Told Police Everything
Vanessa walked into a highway patrol station after midnight.
One broken heel.
Face streaked from crying.
She asked for protection.
Then began talking.
She admitted threatening Lily.
Admitted taking her to the cliff.
Admitted shoving Claire.
No excuses.
But she also described Daniel’s role.
Weeks of manipulation.
Instructions.
Messages.
His repeated phrase:
“Claire always runs when Lily is involved.”
His final instruction that morning:
“Keep her there until I arrive.”
Vanessa asked:
“What about Lily?”
Daniel answered:
“No loose ends.”
Investigators recovered the message history.
Not every sentence.
But enough.
Take her somewhere private.
Make Claire come.
Don’t panic when I get there.
Vanessa’s testimony did not absolve her.
She still pushed Claire.
Still endangered Lily.
Still chose cruelty.
But it destroyed Daniel’s plan to paint himself as an innocent father arriving at tragedy.
Now both women he manipulated were telling the same story.
From opposite sides.
