Chapter 5 - VIVIAN’S VERSION
Vivian requested an interview with investigators.
She arrived with two attorneys and a physician.
The physician claimed Vivian was under severe emotional stress.
Vivian claimed she believed the platinum card was part of her divorce settlement with Claire.
Claire had never been married to Vivian.
When the agent pointed that out, Vivian corrected herself.
“I mean the family settlement.”
There was no family settlement.
Vivian said Adrian told her the card drew from a private Whitlock account.
She never reviewed statements.
She never asked questions.
She signed annual user confirmations without reading them.
At first, Claire believed Vivian was lying.
Then she saw the interview recording.
Vivian’s confidence disappeared whenever Northstar was mentioned.
She knew about the spending.
She did not understand the procurement structure.
Adrian had used his mother the same way he used everyone else.
As both beneficiary and shield.
Vivian’s ignorance did not make her innocent.
She had accepted luxury without asking whose money paid for it.
She had signed documents.
She had pressured Claire repeatedly to restore access.
But the central architecture belonged to Adrian.
The federal task force offered Vivian a limited cooperation agreement.
Return the property.
Provide records.
Testify truthfully.
No guarantee of immunity.
Vivian refused.
Then investigators showed her a life insurance policy.
Adrian had insured her for twelve million dollars.
The policy was owned by a trust linked to Northstar.
It became active six months earlier.
Vivian stared at the document.
“He said it was estate planning.”
The agent asked, “Did you authorize this amount?”
“No.”
“Did you know he was the beneficiary?”
