Chapter 13 - Emmett Stopped Wanting to Cook

For nearly two months after the wedding, Emmett refused to help in the kitchen.

If Rafael asked:

“Want to make pancakes?”

“No.”

“Cookies?”

“No.”

“Pasta?”

Emmett’s face changed.

“No pasta.”

Rafael stopped asking.

Then one rainy Sunday, he found Emmett standing beside the kitchen island watching Rosalie roll dough.

The chef said nothing.

She just placed a small lump of dough near him.

Emmett touched it.

Then pulled his hand back.

A minute later, touched it again.

Eventually he rolled it flat.

Crooked.

Too thick.

Perfect.

Rafael watched from the doorway without interfering.

When dinner came, Emmett ate three bites of his own pasta.

Then announced:

“This one is better.”

Rafael asked:

“Better than what?”

“The wedding one.”

Rafael smiled.

“Definitely.”

The old memory had not disappeared.

May you like

It had simply stopped owning the food.
