Chapter 10 - Vanessa Panicked Before Daniel Did
Once Daniel admitted he’d given Vanessa access, the rest of the thread unraveled quickly.
He confronted her that afternoon in the parking garage of his office.
I wasn’t there, but later I read the security transcript after my attorney subpoenaed it.
At first Vanessa denied everything.
Then she pivoted.
Then she got angry.
Then, finally, she told the truth in fragments.
She said she had only been “protecting him.”
She said I would have ruined him in the divorce anyway.
She said I had been raised to think money solved everything.
And then she said the one thing Daniel could never unhear.
“You were supposed to get control before the baby came.”
Supposed to.
Not maybe.
Not eventually.
There had been a plan.
Daniel kept demanding, “Control of what?”
Vanessa laughed at him—actually laughed.
“Don’t act stupid now. The housing account. The trust disbursements. The baby. All of it gets easier if she looks unstable and you look responsible.”
When he asked if she had forged the chart note, Vanessa reportedly snapped back:
“I had to do something because you were too weak to choose.”

By choosing her once, he had already chosen her too much.
