Chapter 10 - THE FIRST COURT ORDER
I filed for divorce.
No trial separation.
No dramatic last conversation.
Violence and fraud had crossed the line for me.
Maya filed for temporary financial protections.
The court recognized the prenup pending final review.
My company remained under my authority.
Joint household accounts were separated.
The penthouse lease terminated early.
Marvin moved into a rental.
I moved closer to work.
Gregory offered Marvin money.
Then withdrew the offer before sending it.
Why?
“I realized I was about to repeat the family disease.”
Marvin needed housing.
He could pay for it himself.
Good.
Then Camryn’s company sued my business for reputational harm after I publicly disavowed any connection with Bennett Legacy Advisors.
Their complaint claimed my statement caused client withdrawals.
It probably did contribute.
But my statement was true.
I had never guaranteed their products.
Never approved my company logo.
Never joined their investment platform.
Truth is not defamation.
Then my company countersued over unauthorized trademark use.
I hated turning marriage into corporate litigation.
But the business had employees, lenders, and clients who deserved protection.
Then Bennett Legacy’s receiver found missing client disclosures.
The case widened.
Regulators did not care about my marital drama.
Good.
They cared about records.
Then Camryn went on television.
Local business show.
She said:
“Rachel has weaponized private family conflict to destroy a respected firm.”
I watched once.
Then stopped.
My father used to say:
“When someone is fighting the audit with adjectives, keep reading the numbers.”
So we did.
The numbers were worse than the adjectives.
Then the receiver found multiple transfers into the fake Rachel subtrust signed by a trust administrator named Leon Price.
He disappeared from work the next day.
Not abroad.
Not kidnapped.
