Chapter 4 - THE FAKE SUBTRUST
The fake Rachel Bennett subtrust had been funded through businesses linked to Camryn’s investment firm, Bennett Legacy Advisors.
That firm managed about forty-two million dollars for private clients.
Mostly family friends.
Retirees.
Small-business owners.
People who trusted Camryn because she came from old money.
The SEC had already opened an inquiry two months before my wedding.
I had no idea.
One client requested a withdrawal and received delays.
Then another.
Then inconsistent statements.
Liquidity trouble.
Not automatically fraud.
But dangerous.
Then auditors found client assets invested into affiliated real-estate vehicles without clear disclosure.
One of those vehicles paid into the fake subtrust bearing my name.
My identity was being used as a bridge.
Why me?
Clean record.
High income.
Successful company.
New wife.
Credible.
Camryn could present me as “the next generation of Bennett leadership” without giving me any actual authority.

I had never approved it.
One slide said:

Another:
Rachel Bennett’s logistics enterprise provides stable external cash flow.
My company had nothing to do with Bennett Legacy Advisors.
Then an elderly investor named Margaret Sloan told investigators:
“Camryn said Rachel personally guaranteed the strategy.”
I had never met Margaret.
That hurt more than the fake trust.
My professional reputation was being used to calm people handing Camryn retirement money.
Then the endorsement letter surfaced.
My name.
My signature.
Forged.
Metadata tied it to Camryn’s office computer.
Maya told me we needed to notify my board.
I hated that.
But secrecy would create a second risk.
My board opened an independent review of unauthorized brand use.
I disclosed everything.
The assault.
The loan.
The fake trust.
The forged endorsement.
Embarrassing.
Necessary.
Then Marvin sent one message through counsel:
I didn’t know Mom used your company name.
Maybe true.

But I should have.
