Chapter 12 - MARVIN’S PLEA

Marvin faced charges tied to the forged loan submission, unauthorized account-access attempts, and the assault.

The prosecutor did not charge him with every transaction Camryn touched.

Good.

Specific responsibility.

Marvin accepted a plea.

He admitted knowingly submitting the false gift-and-income representations to the lender.

Admitted using my saved credentials to request payroll access.

Admitted assault.

He denied creating the fake subtrust.

Evidence supported that denial.

His cooperation against Camryn reduced exposure.

Not erased.

At sentencing he spoke.

“I thought my mother was teaching me to protect family money.”

Then:

“I learned to think my wife’s boundaries were disloyalty.”

He looked toward me.

I did not look back.

Then:

“I hit Rachel because I believed fear would end the argument.”

That sentence mattered.

No stress excuse.

No alcohol excuse.

No childhood excuse.

Choice.

Then:

“I’m sorry.”

The judge asked:

“What have you done besides apologize?”

Good question.

Marvin listed:

Intervention program.

Financial-disclosure classes.

Therapy.

Restitution payments.

Cooperation.

Independent housing.

No contact violations.

Behavior.

Not speech.

He received a sentence involving custody time, supervision, restitution, and continued intervention requirements.

Some people online later called it too light.

Others too harsh.

I stopped reading.

Justice is not a comment section.

Then Gregory visited him.

First time father and son sat together in over a decade.

I did not ask what they said.

Not mine.

Marvin later wrote one sentence through counsel:

Seeing Dad alive did not excuse what I did to you. It only showed me how long I had been living inside Mom’s version of reality.

May you like

Accurate.

Still not my burden.
