Chapter 10 - The Camera Revealed One More Thing
The biggest break came from footage nobody had reviewed closely at first.
The attempted transfer happened on a Tuesday.
At 2:11 p.m., Melissa entered the administrative corridor.
At 2:18, bank records showed the authentication attempt.
At 2:24, Melissa returned to the lobby.
Then at 2:26, she approached the reception desk.
Diane was not there.
Melissa looked around.
Then placed something small inside the inside pocket of Diane’s teal coat hanging behind reception.
The camera did not show the object clearly.
But the movement was obvious.
Later that afternoon, Diane put on the coat and left.
The following morning, she reported the token missing from her banking pouch.
Investigators asked:
Did Melissa plant something in Diane’s coat?
Search records from the original internal review showed staff had checked:
Diane’s handbag,
desk,
home office.
Not:
coat.
Why?
Because Diane wore it home and dry-cleaned it two days later.
Nothing was found.
So what had Melissa placed there?
Melissa eventually admitted:
a folded copy of the Harbor Advisory proposal.
Why?
She claimed she wanted Diane to discover it and realize the club had legitimate consulting plans.
Nobody believed that explanation.
The foundation had not approved:
the proposal.
Why put it secretly in Diane’s coat?
Then investigators reconstructed the likely plan.
Attempt transfer using Diane’s credentials.
Plant a consulting proposal on Diane.
Later raise questions:
Why did the treasurer try to send foundation money to an unapproved consultant?
Why did she have the proposal?
But the transfer failed earlier than Melissa expected.
The bank flagged it before funds moved.
Diane reported the token missing.
The proposal disappeared at the dry cleaner.
The frame never completed.
Then Melissa hid the token upstairs rather than risk carrying it.
She planned to dispose of:

She forgot.
