Chapter 4 - The Camera Did Not Show Melissa Using the Token
Grant wanted instant proof.
The security footage did not provide:

The camera covered the main lobby, reception desk, front entrance, and beginning of the administrative corridor.
It did not cover Melissa’s bedroom.
It did not record computer screens.
It did not record private offices.
So Grant’s sentence—
It saw everything
—was emotionally larger than the technical truth.
It had seen enough.
Security reviewed eleven days of footage.
First significant clip:
Diane entered the club at 10:14 a.m. on the day before the attempted transfer.
She checked her purse at reception while speaking with the membership director.
Her small leather banking pouch was visible.
At 10:17, she walked toward the boardroom.
Melissa entered the lobby at 10:19.
Then another clip.
At 10:42, Diane returned to reception and left her purse briefly behind the desk while using the restroom.
Melissa approached reception.
Spoke with the young attendant.
Pointed toward the terrace.
The attendant walked away.
For forty-three seconds, Melissa stood alone beside Diane’s purse.
The camera angle did not clearly show her hand entering:

Then Melissa walked away.
At 10:46, Diane returned.
Took her purse.
Left.

At 8:12 she entered the corridor.
At 8:17 she returned to the lobby.
The token itself was never visibly captured.
Then Evan found it in her room eleven days later.
Circumstantial.
Strong.
Not complete.
Grant had been right that the camera mattered.
Wrong that it had literally seen everything.
