Robert pushed for the accident file to be reviewed.
Not because he had new proof of homicide.
Because new context mattered.
The sheriff’s office agreed to reexamine the evidence after learning Laura had been under intense marital and financial stress connected to undisclosed conduct immediately before the crash.
They reviewed the original vehicle inspection.
Road conditions.
Phone records.
Witness statements.
Traffic cameras.
There was no evidence Vanessa followed Laura.
No second vehicle was identified near the point where she lost control.
No tampering was found in the surviving mechanical components.
Laura’s phone records showed she had made one outgoing call minutes before the crash.
To Robert.
It rang for seventeen seconds.
He had missed it.
That detail nearly destroyed him.
The phone had been on silent during a board dinner.
Laura left no voicemail.
The call did not prove murder.
It proved intention.
She was trying to reach him.
Whatever she wanted to say died with her.

That mattered to Robert.
