Chapter 11 - Andrew Told the Family Himself

The dinner guests had already guessed something was wrong.

Rumors spread.

Andrew stopped them by holding a short family meeting.

No Madison beside him.

No Eleanor answering for him.

“I took a large personal loan to fund an outside investment.”

He explained the amount.

Collateral.

Repayment plan.

Then:

“I concealed the full amount from Madison.”

No mention of her slap as distraction.

Then:

“I allowed disagreements about my liquidity to look like disagreements between Madison and Eleanor.”

Specific.

Finally:

“The company did not lose money because of my loan. No company asset was secretly sold. The problem was my judgment and my failure to disclose.”

That killed the most dramatic rumors.

Good.

Then Andrew stepped back from the family investment committee for one year.

Not legally forced.

Appropriate.

His own financial decisions had become questionable enough that immediate authority over other people’s capital would have looked absurd.

He continued operational work.

Different role.

Consequences proportional to conduct.

Eleanor respected:

that.

Madison did too.

Trust did not return immediately.

But Andrew had finally done the thing he spent fourteen months avoiding.

He told the truth before someone else forced it from:

May you like

him.
