Chapter 4 - The Bodyguards Had Already Been Watching Marcus

The two bodyguards did not surround Marcus because of Noah’s accusation alone.
They had been watching him before the conflict began.
Rocco learned that thirty minutes later.
His head of security, Daniel Price, asked to speak privately.
“There’s something you need to know.”
Rocco stood in the resort office while Noah rested upstairs with Rocco’s older sister.
“What?”
“Marcus tried to access your vehicle thirty-five minutes before the incident.”
Rocco frowned.
“My car?”
“Not the car. The document case inside it.”
Rocco kept a locked leather briefcase in the SUV during formal events.
Mostly harmless things.
Contracts.
Travel documents.
Sometimes personal financial papers.
“What happened?”
“One of our men stopped him. Marcus said you asked him to retrieve something.”
“I didn’t.”
“We checked.”
That explained the bodyguards.
Daniel had quietly instructed them not to let Marcus leave until Rocco could confirm why he had lied.
Then Noah’s hearing aid was destroyed.
Then Victoria panicked.
Then Noah said he heard everything.
By the time Rocco asked the final question in the ballroom, security already knew Marcus had behaved suspiciously.
That was why the men closed around him.
Not to assault him.
To keep him on-site until the situation was clarified.
Marcus eventually asked for his attorney.
Rocco let him.
He did not need another physical confrontation.
One child had already been hurt.
