Chapter 4 - THE MOTHER IN THE MIRROR ROOM
Arthur denied ordering Eleanor’s disappearance.
The released files complicated that denial.
Twenty-six years earlier, he authorized a confidential transfer from Sterling Security to Vale Medical Holdings.
The payment memo read:
MIRROR ROOM — SUBJECT E.V.
Arthur said he believed the money funded witness protection.
The Mirror Room was actually a private psychological facility.
No windows.
No clocks.
No independent visitors.
Patients were shown edited videos until they doubted their memories.
Eleanor had been held there.

Who funded it?

Arthur claimed he never knew.
Claire answered:

“I signed thousands.”
“That is how systems hide inside powerful men.”
Arthur did not argue.
He surrendered control of his records and agreed to questioning.
Then Marcus Vale woke.
My uncle had been tied in the wine cellar because he came to the gala to expose David.
He possessed a location.
An abandoned estate in upstate New York.

Police raided it before dawn.
They found nine former patients.
Not Eleanor.

“I know.”
“You planned to erase her inheritance.”
“Yes.”
“Why talk now?”
“Because Martha told me the baby inside me belongs to the trust, not to me.”
The sentence exposed her fear.
Chloe had believed she would become the next family matriarch.
Instead, she saw the contract.
If she failed to comply after birth, custody of the boy transferred to a Thorne trustee.
Martha planned to control her too.
Victimhood did not erase what Chloe did.
But it created leverage.
She gave Claire access to a hidden phone.
Messages from David.
DELETE THE BALCONY FEED.
OWEN ONLY NEEDS TO SCARE ARTHUR.
IF LILY DIES, THE CLAUSE RESETS.
That last message changed the charge.
David had considered Lily’s death.
Then another message:
MOVE ELEANOR BEFORE CATHERINE SEES THE BRACELET RECORD.
Chloe also revealed where Martha kept the original trust seal.
Inside the Thorne mausoleum.
Police searched.
They found the seal.
And a second coffin beneath Martha’s husband’s grave.
Inside was no body.
Only files.
Birth records.
Embryo contracts.
False death certificates.
One belonged to Lily.
It listed date of death:
Tomorrow.
Cause:
Congenital cardiac event.
