Chapter 5 - The Mass Broadcast

Driven by pure, animalistic desperation, Richard violently threw his coffee-soaked jacket to the floor and ripped open his expensive laptop.

His hands shook so violently he could barely type his own passcode. He connected to the airplane's Wi-Fi and frantically opened his sent mail outbox.

His stomach violently plummeted. The air completely left his lungs.

Margaret hadn't just downloaded the files. She had set up a mass-forwarding protocol directly from his own IP address.

Right there, on his glowing screen, was the undeniable proof. The entire un-redacted offshore ledger—every stolen dollar, every illegal wire transfer, every corrupt political bribe—had been mass-emailed to the SEC, the FBI Director of Financial Crimes, the New York Times, and the entire board of directors of the company he was flying to merge with.

The subject line of the email read: A Confession from Richard Vance.

"No..." Richard gasped, staring at the screen as if it were a loaded gun. "No, no, no, no!"

His phone began to vibrate violently in his pocket. It was his lead attorney. Then his Chief Financial Officer. Then his board members. The notifications flooded his screen like a digital execution. His entire multi-billion-dollar empire was collapsing in real-time, at thirty thousand feet in the air.

"The merger is dead, Richard," Margaret stated calmly, her voice cutting through his manic panic. "Your company is bankrupt. And the FBI is already reviewing the ledgers."
