Chapter 4 - The Final Demand

Daniel’s jaw clenched so tightly the muscles ticked visibly beneath his stubble. Seeing his mother "cry" completely validated the violent slap he had just delivered. He felt entirely justified. He felt invincible.
He stepped forcefully into Emily’s personal space, towering over her in his sharp navy suit.
He looked down at her chic, long-sleeved white dress, viewing her not as a wife, but as a parasite he was finally scraping off his shoe. He fully expected her to break down. He expected her to drop to her knees on the marble floor, sobbing, begging for a second chance, pleading for him not to cut off her credit cards.
"Pack your cheap clothes and go," Daniel demanded, his voice a harsh, unforgiving whip. "You are leaving this house tonight with exactly what you brought into this marriage. Absolutely nothing."
The heavy silence in the grand foyer was suffocating. The relatives held their breath, waiting for the broke, humiliated wife to run up the sweeping staircase in tears to pack a suitcase.
But Emily didn't run. She didn't cry.
