Chapter 5 - The Icy Shift

The trembling in Emily's hand completely stopped. She slowly lowered her fingers from her reddened cheek.

The quiet, submissive, people-pleasing wife completely evaporated into the warm lighting of the crystal chandelier. Emily straightened her posture, pulling her shoulders back until she stood with the impeccable, unshakeable grace of a queen.

She gripped the handles of her taupe designer handbag firmly.

Instead of looking at the front doors, Emily slowly looked around the breathtaking, luxurious foyer. She took in the sweeping staircases, the imported marble floors, and the multi-million-dollar artwork hanging on the walls.

Then, she looked back at Daniel. Her expression shifted from shocked pain to a cold, victorious, and terrifyingly confident smile.

"I wanted to remember this moment," Emily said.

Her voice wasn't a scream. It was completely calm, steady, and vibrating with an absolute, undeniable authority that made the hairs on the back of Daniel's neck suddenly stand up. It was a tone she had never used in the three years of their marriage.
