Chapter 5 - The Hidden Lens

The next morning, Victor left early for a syndicate business meeting, leaving Cassandra in charge of the sprawling estate.

Maya walked into Lily’s bedroom. The little girl immediately grabbed a heavy hardcover book from her desk, raising it aggressively as if she were about to throw it at Maya’s head to fulfill her wicked stepmother's orders.

Maya didn't flinch. She calmly walked over, knelt down to be perfectly eye-level with the child, and gently placed her warm hands over Lily’s trembling fists.

"You don't have to pretend anymore, Lily," Maya whispered softly, looking directly into the terrified child's eyes. "I heard her last night."

The heavy book slipped from Lily’s fingers, crashing onto the thick carpet. The little girl’s arrogant facade completely evaporated. She collapsed to her knees, burying her face into Maya’s black dress, sobbing with raw, agonizing relief.

"She's going to send me away!" Lily wept, clutching the white collar of Maya's uniform. "She says my dad hates me!"

"Your dad loves you more than his own life," Maya promised, wrapping her arms protectively around the broken child. "Cassandra is a liar. And I am going to prove it."

Maya looked around the luxurious bedroom. She noticed a dusty, vintage porcelain doll sitting high on the top shelf of the bookcase. It was a perfect vantage point. That afternoon, Maya secretly purchased a high-definition, motion-activated micro-camera and hid the lens perfectly inside the doll's eye.

👉 Maya had the perfect surveillance in place, completely unaware that Cassandra was already plotting to have the nanny arrested.
