Chapter 8 - The Digital Guillotine

"You delusional peasant!" Cassandra shrieked, her face turning an ugly, blotchy red. "Victor, she's threatening to kidnap your child! Arrest her!"

Victor didn't move. His slow, calculating eye movement shifted from his screaming fiancée back to the remarkably calm nanny. He knew human nature, and a guilty thief didn't stand her ground with that level of absolute confidence.

Maya calmly pulled her smartphone from her pocket. She tapped the screen twice, syncing it to the mansion's Bluetooth audio system.

"You were right about one thing, Cassandra," Maya said, her voice echoing clearly. "Lily is leaving this house. Because I refuse to let her stay under the same roof as a monster."

Maya pressed play.

The audio from the hidden micro-camera blasted through the kitchen speakers at maximum volume.

"You didn't make her quit today, you little freak... If your father doesn't sign the papers to lock you in that Swiss asylum on Friday, I will tell him you pushed me down the stairs. He will send you away forever. Do you understand?!"

The toxic, malicious voice of Cassandra echoed off the marble countertops, completely exposing her demonic psychological torture of a grieving seven-year-old child.

All the color violently drained from Cassandra’s perfectly contoured face. She took a staggering step backward, her expensive red dress suddenly looking cheap and pathetic. She looked around the room, realizing that every single elite guest, business partner, and security guard had just heard her true nature.

👉 Cassandra tried to scramble toward the back door, but the apex predator of the Chicago syndicate had just been fully unleashed.
