Chapter 7 - The Planted Evidence

"Check her bags!" Cassandra demanded viciously, stepping closer to Victor for protection. "She's a criminal! I knew she was street trash the moment you hired her!"
Victor nodded sharply. The two massive security guards immediately grabbed Maya’s simple black tote bag from the kitchen counter. They dumped the contents entirely out onto the pristine white marble island.
Right on top of Maya’s notebooks and keys, a massive, glittering diamond ring tumbled out, hitting the stone with a heavy, undeniable clink.
The crowd of wealthy guests gasped in absolute horror.
"I told you!" Cassandra shrieked triumphantly, throwing her arms around Victor’s broad shoulders. "She's a manipulative thief! Call the police immediately, Victor! Have her locked away in federal prison!"
Victor looked at the diamond ring, then slowly looked at Maya. The betrayal in his eyes was cinematic and profound. He had trusted her to heal his broken daughter, and she had allegedly robbed him blind in his own home.
"You have five minutes to pack your things before I call the cops," Victor stated, his voice completely devoid of human mercy.
Maya didn't beg. She didn't cry. She stood tall, her curly hair perfectly framing a face of absolute, titanium resolve.
