Chapter 10 - The Court Martial

Julian couldn't breathe. His dark blue suit was soaked in cold sweat. He looked wildly at the massive windows of the dining hall, frantically calculating if he could run.
But the two elite military police officers who had followed the Colonel into the room had already moved. They stepped up behind Julian, violently grabbing his arms and twisting them behind his back. The heavy steel handcuffs clicked shut with a loud, satisfying, and irreversible snap.
"Julian Harper," Colonel Mercer commanded, his booming voice sealing the man's doom. "You are under arrest for federal espionage, treason, and conspiracy to steal classified military intelligence. You will be held in federal lockup awaiting a military tribunal."
"Brooke! Do something! Call my lawyer!" Julian shrieked pathetically, thrashing against the massive officers as they began dragging him away.
Brooke didn't move. She stood frozen by the table, her beige dress trembling, her entire world completely ruined. Her husband was going to federal prison for decades, their company was dead, and her high-society status was permanently erased in front of the entire city.
General Reed didn't even watch Julian get dragged out the double wooden doors. She calmly picked up her silver fork and took a bite of her dinner. She looked up at Brooke, who was still weeping silently in the aisle.

"I suggest you find your seat, Brooke," General Reed said coldly. "You wouldn't want to lose your place."
If you were Brooke, would you have ever suspected your own husband of framing you for treason, or would the betrayal have completely destroyed your ability to trust anyone?
