Chapter 7 - The Sweating Traitor

Brooke began to hyperventilate, desperately pawing through the empty silk lining of her clutch. "It was right here! I swear to God, it was right here!"

A tight, cinematic medium shot focused entirely on Julian.

The handsome man in the dark blue suit was violently unraveling. A thick bead of sweat rolled down his temple. His natural breathing had escalated into shallow, panicked gasps. His hands were gripping the edge of the table so hard his knuckles were entirely white.

Julian had stolen the badge.

Two hours before the gala, while Brooke was getting her hair done, Julian had slipped into her purse and taken the card. He knew his company was going under. He knew he needed the proprietary schematics inside Building 7 to steal the design and win the contract. He had hired a corporate mercenary to swipe the stolen badge tonight, assuming the military would trace it back to his careless, arrogant wife. He had planned to play the devastated, ignorant husband while Brooke took the fall for treason.

Julian desperately tried to maintain his composure. He needed to throw her under the bus right now to save himself.

"Brooke... what did you do?" Julian whispered, his voice trembling with fake, manufactured horror. He stood up from his gold chair, backing away from his wife. "Did you try to steal the files for me? Are you insane?!"

👉 Julian thought his twisted, treacherous acting would save him, but General Reed was already holding the winning hand.
