Chapter 6 - The Politician's Arrogance

"You can't touch me, Vincent!" Marcus shrieked wildly through the speaker, completely abandoning his sophisticated political persona. "I am the most powerful man in this district! I own the judges! I own the police! If you lay a single finger on me, I will have you arrested for assault!"
"I don't need to touch you, Marcus," Vincent whispered dangerously. "I just need to look at your bank accounts."
Clare looked up at Vincent, her eyes wide with sheer, breathless confusion. She didn't understand what he was doing.
"You think you can audit me?!" Marcus laughed hysterically. "My money is completely hidden in offshore shell corporations! It's untouchable! You have absolutely no proof that I sent those men tonight!"
"I don't need proof of tonight," Vincent corrected smoothly, staring down at the bleeding thugs on the ground. "I need proof of the municipal pension fund you embezzled three years ago to fund your mayoral campaign."
Marcus physically stopped breathing. The line went completely, terrifyingly silent.
"How... how do you know about that?" Marcus stammered, his voice dropping to a panicked, terrified whisper.
