Chapter 1 - The Mud-Stained Intruder

The classic, opulent American high-society gala was a masterpiece of wealth and privilege. Sweeping marble staircases cascaded into a massive ballroom illuminated by towering crystal chandeliers. Hundreds of the city’s most elite billionaires and socialites clinked champagne glasses, draped in custom designer gowns and flawless tuxedos. But the elegant symphony of wealth was violently shattered by a sudden, harsh scream near the grand entrance.

"Take her downstairs immediately! I don't want that filthy dress in front of our guests!"

Jackson Miller, a powerful, older wealthy man in a classic tuxedo, was red in the face with absolute, unhinged fury. He pointed a shaking, manicured finger at the center of the marble floor, completely losing his aristocratic composure.

Standing there, surrounded by disgusted gasps from the elite crowd, was Harper Davis.

The 26-year-old woman was shivering, her long dark wavy hair clinging to her damp cheeks. She looked like she had just crawled through a nightmare. She was wearing a beautiful but entirely ruined periwinkle-blue dress, slit at the knee, that was heavily stained with wet, dark mud and torn at the seams. Her bare feet left dirty footprints on the pristine white marble.

Two massive, heavily armed private security guards instantly lunged forward, grabbing Harper brutally by both of her fragile arms.

Harper didn't cry. She didn't beg. Instead, a fierce, defensive pride flashed in her deep eyes. She dug her bare heels into the slippery marble, fighting with every ounce of strength she had left.

"Let me go!" Harper screamed, her voice cracking with pure desperation. "I need to speak to someone in charge! A woman is dying in your basement facility!"
