Chapter 10 - The Queen Restored

One month later, the sun shone brightly through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of the Hayes Syndicate’s penthouse estate.
Josephine Hayes sat comfortably in a plush velvet armchair, looking remarkably healthy and vibrant. She was dressed in luxurious silk, holding a cup of warm tea, completely restored to her rightful place as the matriarch of the family empire. Jackson Miller had entirely vanished from the face of the earth, his empire completely dissolved and absorbed into the Hayes syndicate.
The heavy mahogany doors of the library opened, and Harper walked in.
She was no longer the shivering girl in the mud-stained periwinkle dress. Harper wore a stunning, perfectly tailored white designer gown. Her dark wavy hair fell beautifully in soft cascades over her shoulders. She looked like absolute royalty.
Gideon stood by the massive fireplace, dressed in a sharp navy suit. His dark, cold eyes completely softened the second Harper entered the room.
He had not just rewarded her with money. He had pulled her out of poverty, given her absolute protection, and placed her under the permanent, untouchable umbrella of the Hayes family. Over the past month of recovery, a deep, unbreakable bond of respect and undeniable affection had formed between the fearless girl and the ruthless boss.
"You look beautiful, my dear," Josephine smiled warmly, patting the empty seat next to her. "Come sit with us."
Gideon walked over, his large hand gently resting on the small of Harper’s back as he guided her to the chair. He looked down at the woman who had risked everything to save his mother, realizing she had inadvertently saved his soul, too.

The silver wolf hairpin now rested securely in Harper's hair, a permanent symbol that she was no longer just a cleaner; she was family.
If you were Harper, would you have risked your life to smuggle the silver hairpin out of the corrupt billionaire's basement, or would you have stayed quiet to protect yourself?
