Chapter 6 - The Body in the Trunk
“Frank said your younger brother was there too,” Rosa sobbed, looking directly into Luca’s eyes.
At the other end of the long dining table, Leo Moretti instantly froze. The charming smile he had been wearing all night completely vanished.
“And they were arguing,” Rosa continued, her voice echoing in the silent room. “Frank told me he saw them arguing about what to do with the woman they had found locked in the trunk of the black Cadillac.”
The room erupted into shocked gasps.
Luca’s blood turned to absolute ice. Two days before Frank’s death, a rival family’s informant had completely vanished from the city. Rumors had been swirling that someone inside Luca’s own syndicate had taken her out to cover up a massive embezzlement scheme.
Luca slowly turned his head to look at his younger brother.
Leo was sweating profusely, his hands gripping the edge of the mahogany table. “Luca, bro... you know me. This is insane. The old man was probably hallucinating from blood loss! Why would I be in the garage with Vanessa?”
“Because you’ve been sleeping with her,” a new voice rang out.
Everyone turned. It was me.
I stepped forward from the shadows of the champagne table. My heart was pounding out of my chest, but I couldn't stay quiet anymore.
“Claire, shut your mouth!” Vanessa shrieked from the doors, her elegant facade entirely destroyed.
I looked directly at Luca. “I clean the guest suites in the east wing, sir. I’ve found Leo’s watch, his cologne, and his tie in Vanessa’s private rooms multiple times over the last six months. They’ve been together behind your back.”
Leo lunged out of his chair, reaching inside his tailored jacket for a weapon. “You lying little—”

Before Leo could even draw his gun, Luca moved with terrifying, blinding speed. He crossed the room in two strides, grabbed his brother by the throat, and violently slammed him back down onto the dining table. Crystal plates shattered. Silverware went flying.
