Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Traitor

Vanessa collapsed to her knees, her elegant designer gown pooling around her on the marble floor.

“Luca, please, darling!” Vanessa sobbed, her hands raised in a desperate, pathetic prayer. “I loved you! Leo forced me into it! He threatened me! I only made Rosa work tonight because I was terrified she knew something! I was trying to protect you!”

“You didn't protect me,” Luca said, walking slowly toward her. His heavy footsteps echoed like a death knell in the silent dining room. “You disgraced my house. You humiliated a grieving widow. You beat an innocent man to death with a wrench.”

He stopped right in front of her.

“Take off the ring,” Luca commanded.

Vanessa’s hands shook violently as she struggled to pull the massive, two-million-dollar diamond engagement ring off her finger. She dropped it onto the floor at his feet.

“Take her to the police station,” Luca ordered his guards, his voice ringing with absolute, terrifying finality. “Hand over the audio recordings from the garage security cameras. Tell the District Attorney she gets no bail.”

“No! You can't do this to me! I’m a Bellini!” Vanessa shrieked as the guards grabbed her by the arms and hauled her up.

“You are nothing,” Luca replied coldly.

The heavy mahogany doors were unlocked. Vanessa was dragged out of the dining room, screaming and kicking all the way down the grand hallway, her entire luxurious life completely annihilated in a matter of minutes.

The wealthy guests sat in stunned, terrified silence. No one moved. No one spoke. They had just watched the most powerful boss in the city purge his own family.

Luca turned away from the doors. He let out a long, heavy breath, the terrifying mafia boss persona fading away, leaving behind a deeply exhausted, heartbroken man.
