Chapter 4 - The Vicious Defense

Renata realized she was backed into a corner. She resorted to the only weapon she had left: her ten years of seniority in the household.
"I raised you, Lorenzo!" Renata cried hysterically, forcing fake tears to stream down her face. "When your mother died, I was the one who managed this estate! I protected this family! That woman came from nothing! She married you for your money, and when she got greedy, she tried to poison you! The guards found the toxic powder in her own bedroom!"
Lorenzo stood perfectly still, his jaw locked tight.
"You found the powder," Lorenzo corrected her coldly. "You were the one who 'discovered' the forged bank statements. You were the only one who testified against her."
"Because I was the only one loyal enough to check!" Renata screamed, pointing a shaking finger at the front doors. "She is playing you for a fool! She wants your empire, and she will say anything to get back into this mansion! Where is your proof?! You have absolutely no proof that I framed her!"
The massive foyer echoed with Renata's desperate, shrill demands. The armed guards in the room remained completely motionless, waiting for their boss to give the execution order.
Lorenzo didn't pull a weapon. He didn't even raise his voice.
He slowly looked down at his four-year-old daughter.
Isabella was standing safely behind the protective bulk of the massive Doberman, her little pink shoes planted firmly on the marble floor. She looked up at her towering father, completely unfazed by the screaming maid.

"Isabella, sweetheart," Lorenzo said gently, completely ignoring Renata’s frantic meltdown. "Can you show Renata what you showed Daddy on the airplane?"
