Chapter 1 - The Child in the Penthouse

The heavy, soundproof oak doors of the ultra-luxury high-rise office burst open.
Ethan, the thirty-four-year-old billionaire CEO, strode in, fully expecting the quiet solitude of his late-night empire. He wore a sharply tailored navy blue suit and a crisp white shirt, his mind entirely focused on the multi-million-dollar merger waiting on his desk.
But as he stepped into the room, he froze in absolute shock.
His private sanctuary was not empty. Bathed in the neon glow of the modern American city skyline shining through the floor-to-ceiling windows, a tiny figure was standing on a leather stool, fiercely wiping down his massive black marble desk.
It was a little girl, no older than six. She wore a faded, worn-out yellow floral dress that offered absolutely no defense against the chilled air-conditioning of the penthouse. Her small hands gripped a heavy microfiber cloth, scrubbing the marble with a desperate, frantic energy.
But that wasn't what made Ethan’s breath catch in his throat.
Secured tightly to the little girl’s back in a makeshift blue fabric wrap was a sleeping infant. The baby’s head rested gently against the girl’s thin shoulder, rising and falling with soft, natural breathing, completely oblivious to the world.
Ethan’s corporate authority vanished instantly, replaced by profound disbelief. He stared at the struggling child, his sharp eyes taking in the sheer absurdity and heartbreak of the scene.
"What are you doing in here?" Ethan asked, his voice low, completely baffled by the sight.
