Chapter 10 - The True Boss
"Valerie Sterling, you're under arrest for grand larceny, embezzlement, and unlawful imprisonment," the leading police officer stated, immediately grabbing Valerie’s arms and forcefully snapping cold steel handcuffs around her wrists.
"No! Please! Ethan, we can make a deal!" Valerie screamed hysterically, crying massive, exaggerated tears as her entire luxurious life completely evaporated.
"Get her out of my sight," Ethan ordered coldly.
Valerie was dragged out of the executive suite, kicking and screaming all the way down the hallway, forever humiliated in front of the entire corporate staff. The office fell back into a peaceful, heavy silence.
Ethan turned around to face Maya and Nora.
Maya was crying, but this time, they were tears of pure, overwhelming relief. The nightmare was finally over.
"Maya," Ethan said, his voice softening completely. "My company owes you a massive debt. I am personally returning every single dollar Valerie stole from your paychecks."
Maya gasped, covering her mouth as she realized the sheer amount of money that meant.
"But you aren't going back to the night shift," Ethan continued with a warm smile. "I'm firing the outside contractor. I want you to take Valerie’s position as the true Head of Facility Operations. You know how this building works, and you know how to treat people with dignity."
Maya broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. She stepped forward and hugged Ethan, a gesture strictly forbidden in corporate culture, but Ethan hugged her back, fully accepting the gratitude.
Little Nora walked over to the desk. She looked up at Ethan, her wide brown eyes shining brightly. She didn't have to clean anymore.
Ethan knelt down to her eye level once again. He smiled, reaching out to gently high-five the brave six-year-old.
