Chapter 8 - The Arrogant Entrance

At exactly 7:45 AM the next morning, Valerie Sterling strutted through the glass doors of the executive floor.

She wore a bright crimson designer suit, completely paid for by the wages she had stolen from desperate women like Maya. She carried a sleek tablet, a smug, arrogant smile plastered across her face.

She expected Ethan’s office to be a chaotic mess. She fully anticipated marching into the basement, unlocking the closet, and brutally firing Maya for failing to clean the penthouse. It was her favorite part of the job—reminding the "help" that they were completely disposable.

Valerie walked up to Ethan’s assistant's desk. "Is Mr. Davis in yet?"

"He's in his office, Ms. Sterling. He requested to see you immediately," the assistant replied nervously.

Valerie’s smile widened. Perfect. She would tell the CEO that the night staff was lazy and secure authorization to hire a cheaper contractor—one she could skim even more money from.

She pushed open the heavy oak doors and stepped into the ultra-luxury office.

"Good morning, Ethan!" Valerie chirped, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. "I just wanted to apologize in advance. I suspect the night cleaners didn't do a thorough job up here. I’m actually on my way down to terminate the head cleaner right now. She’s terribly lazy."

Ethan was sitting behind his spotless black marble desk. He wore the exact same navy suit from the night before. His face was completely unreadable.

"Is that so, Valerie?" Ethan asked smoothly, leaning back in his leather chair.

"Oh, yes," Valerie sighed dramatically, stepping closer to the desk. "You just can't find good help these days. They have no work ethic."
