The sound of the firing pin striking an empty chamber echoed loudly in the dim marble hallway.

Marco frowned, looking down at his expensive tactical pistol in total confusion. He racked the slide aggressively, aiming again.

"The armory guards unloaded your weapon at the gate, Marco," a deep, terrifying voice echoed from the shadows behind him.

Marco physically staggered backward, all the color violently draining from his arrogant face. His toxic smirk evaporated into pure, unadulterated terror.

Stepping out of the darkness, bathed in the dim light of the wall sconces, was Vincent Castalano.

Vincent wore an immaculate black suit. He didn't hold a gun. He simply walked forward, projecting an aura of absolute, suffocating doom. Flanking him on both sides were Renzo and six of the most heavily armed, fiercely loyal syndicate enforcers in the entire organization.

"Vincent!" Marco stammered, dropping the useless pistol onto the marble floor. His hands shot up in surrender. "It's a misunderstanding! The maid set me up! She's working for the Russians!"

Vincent didn't yell. A quick outburst was far too generous for a monster who targeted children.

"You threatened a three-year-old girl in my city," Vincent whispered, his voice vibrating with a lethal, titanium authority. "You brought a weapon into my home. And you sold my secrets to the cartel."
