Chapter 9 - The True Family

Marco’s horrifying, desperate screams echoed down the long marble hallway until the heavy steel doors of the loading dock slammed shut, permanently swallowing his toxic existence into violent ruin.

The threat was entirely neutralized. The empire was completely secure.

The chaotic, violent energy evaporated from the hallway. Vincent stood up, smoothing his immaculate black suit. He turned around and looked at Clara.

The thirty-year-old housekeeper was still pressed against the wall, trembling violently from the adrenaline of the night. She expected to be fired immediately, or worse, punished for ever agreeing to Marco's blackmail in the first place.

Vincent walked slowly toward her.

The cold, terrifying executioner completely vanished from his dark eyes. He looked exhausted, vulnerable, and filled with a profound, overwhelming respect.

"You walked into a nightmare to protect your daughter," Vincent said softly, his deep voice filled with genuine awe. "You risked your life to hand me that bug. I have never seen courage like that."

Clara swallowed hard, looking down at the marble floor. "I'm so sorry I brought this into your home, Mr. Castalano."

"You brought light into my home," Vincent corrected gently.

The heavy vault door down the hall clicked open. Renzo walked out, gently holding little Mia’s hand. The three-year-old was still wearing her frilly floral dress, completely unharmed and entirely fearless.
