Chapter 6 - The Broken Alibi

"Arthur, darling, what are you talking about?" Victoria stammered, frantically pushing her chair back from the table. She tried to force a panicked laugh, looking around at the nearby guests to save face. "The maid is lying! Eleanor is senile! She doesn't know what she's saying!"

Arthur took one slow, deliberate step toward the table.

"You broke her locket," Arthur said smoothly, entirely ignoring her pathetic lies. "You tied my grandmother to a chair in the dark while you drank my wine and wore diamonds bought with my money."

"It's a lie!" Victoria shrieked, her voice echoing shrilly across the ballroom, shattering the elegant atmosphere completely. She pointed a shaking finger at the young maid. "That little rat stole the locket! She's trying to frame me because I caught her stealing!"

Arthur didn't argue. He reached into the inside pocket of his tailored black suit jacket and pulled out his smartphone.

"My grandmother might be old, Victoria," Arthur said coldly. "But I am not. I had hidden security cameras installed in the basement last month to monitor the wine cellar inventory."

Victoria physically stumbled backward, her designer heels slipping on the marble floor.
