Chapter 4 - The Lethal Drops

The sunlight pouring through the stained-glass windows suddenly felt freezing cold.
"What was in the bottle, sweetheart?" Ethan asked, his voice deathly quiet.
"The bearded man told her to put exactly three drops in your coffee every morning after the honeymoon," Nora explained, tears finally spilling down her rosy cheeks. "He said it would make your heart stop in your sleep, and the doctors would just think it was a natural heart attack from the stress of losing the baby."
The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing evil standing at the altar paralyzed Ethan.
For the last two weeks, Ethan had been experiencing strange, unexplainable chest pains and dizzy spells. He had blamed it on wedding planning exhaustion. Now, the horrifying realization crashed over him like a freight train.
Vanessa hadn't just faked a pregnancy to steal his fortune. She was actively micro-dosing him to test the poison. She was planning to murder him in his sleep, inherit his billion-dollar tech empire as his grieving widow, and send his daughter to an orphanage.
Ethan slowly stood up to his full, towering height.
The heartbroken, betrayed groom completely vanished. In his place stood an apex predator who had just discovered a lethal parasite in his home.
Vanessa saw the pitch-black, merciless darkness in his eyes. She began to hyperventilate in her white lace gown.
"Ethan, please!" Vanessa shrieked hysterically. "She's lying! She hates me! She made the whole thing up!"
