Chapter 1 - The Splintered Wood

The solemn, suffocating silence of the indoor funeral home was violently shattered by a high-pitched, hysterical scream. The room, elegantly decorated with light beige walls, a dark carpet, and massive white floral arrangements, instantly turned into a scene of absolute cinematic chaos. Wealthy guests in formal black funeral attire gasped, stumbling backward over the plush red carpet runner.

Standing dead center in the room was Lily.

The young woman in her twenties wasn't a family member. She was wearing a simple orange and white maid uniform, her dark hair tied up in a messy, frantic bun. Tears were streaming down her pale face, her chest heaving with desperate, uncontrollable sobs. But it was what she was holding that paralyzed the entire room.

In her hands, her knuckles completely white from the strain, was a massive, heavy wooden axe she had ripped from the estate’s emergency glass case.

"She's not dead!" Lily screamed at the top of her lungs, her voice cracking with raw, unadulterated agony.

Before anyone could stop her, the fragile maid raised the heavy axe high above her head. With a wild, desperate surge of adrenaline, she swung the weapon down with everything she had.

CRACK.

The deafening sound of shattering wood echoed off the beige walls. The sharp metal blade of the axe bit deeply into the pristine, polished lid of the expensive white coffin resting on the altar. Wood splintered violently into the air, raining down onto the red carpet.
