Chapter 2 - The Furious Widower

"Have you lost your mind?!"

The furious, booming yell tore through the funeral home. David, the grieving twenty-something widower, lunged forward from the front row. He was a strikingly handsome young man, his dark brown hair perfectly styled, wearing a sharp black tuxedo with a black bowtie. But right now, his handsome face was contorted into a mask of pure, unhinged rage.

He pointed a shaking, aggressive finger directly at the sobbing maid.

"Security! Get this psychotic bitch away from my wife!" David roared, his chest heaving. "Drag her out into the street and call the police! She’s desecrating Emma’s body!"

Two massive private security guards in black suits immediately rushed down the red carpet runner, their heavy boots thudding against the floor. They lunged at Lily, grabbing her arms and violently wrestling the heavy wooden axe out of her trembling hands.

Lily didn't fight the guards. She completely collapsed to her knees on the dark carpet, her orange and white uniform brushing against the shattered wood splinters. She looked up at David, her face a heartbreaking mixture of profound desperation and overwhelming grief.

"I heard her crying!" Lily pleaded, tears spilling uncontrollably over her cheeks. She pointed a frantic, shaking finger at the ruined white coffin. "David, please! I was standing next to the wood! I heard her crying inside!"

The wealthy guests murmured in disgusted disbelief. Everyone knew Emma had died of a sudden, catastrophic cardiac event three days ago. The coroner had signed the papers. The embalmers had prepared the body.
