Chapter 4 - The Twisted Caregiver

Luca’s breath violently hitched in his throat.
There, on the soft, frail skin of his mother’s upper arm, were five dark, purple, finger-shaped bruises. They were deep, vicious, and entirely undeniable.
The silence in the grand ballroom was absolute, deafening, and completely terrifying.
"Where did you get these?" Luca whispered, gently tracing the edges of the bruises, his entire body trembling with suppressed, apocalyptic fury.
"From... her," Mrs. Morelli choked out, pointing a shaking finger directly at Isabella.
Isabella physically staggered backward, her face turning the color of wet ash. "She's lying! The stroke melted her brain! She bruised herself falling out of bed!"
I stepped forward, standing tall in my black and white uniform, completely fearless.
"She didn't fall out of bed, Mr. Morelli," I stated clearly, ensuring every wealthy guest in the room heard the truth. "For the last six months, whenever you leave for business, your fiancée locks your mother in the dark. If she cries, she pinches her where the bruises won't show. She fired the physical therapists and pocketed the money. She intentionally kept your mother weak so you would put her in a nursing home."
Luca’s jaw locked so tightly the muscles ticked beneath his dark beard.
"You lying peasant!" Isabella screamed like a banshee, lunging toward me with her manicured claws extended.
She didn't make it two steps.

Luca stood up with blinding, terrifying speed. He grabbed Isabella by the throat of her red dress, violently slamming her backward against a marble pillar.
👉 Isabella begged for her life, but the absolute worst piece of evidence hadn't even been revealed yet.
