Chapter 5 - The Poisoned Pen

"Don't you ever try to touch her," Luca growled softly, entirely paralyzing the screaming woman in his grip.
"Luca, please! It's a conspiracy!" Isabella wept hysterically, tears ruining her flawless makeup. "The maid wants my place! She wants your money! I love you! I love your mother!"
"You love my money," Luca corrected coldly, entirely immune to her fake tears.
He didn't let her go. He looked over at me. "Do you have it?"
I nodded. I reached into the deep pocket of my black apron and pulled out a crumpled, heavy legal document. I unfolded it and placed it directly onto the long dining table for all the guests to see.
It was a revised Last Will and Testament for the Morelli family trust.
"I found this in her private safe this morning, sir," I explained. "It transfers complete control of your offshore accounts and your mother's real estate entirely to Isabella. The signature at the bottom belongs to your mother."
Luca looked at the signature. It was shaky, jagged, and completely unnatural.
"She... forced me," Mrs. Morelli whispered from the wheelchair, tears streaming down her face. "She held my hand... and made me sign it. She said if I didn't... she would put bleach in my feeding tube."
The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing evil in the room took the breath away from every single guest.
Isabella hadn't just been abusing a stroke victim. She had meticulously planned to legally steal a billion-dollar empire and murder the only witness.
