Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Reward

The chaotic, violent energy completely evaporated from the grand ballroom.

Luca ordered his security team to politely escort the shocked guests out of the estate. Within minutes, the massive, bright room was completely quiet, save for Luca, his mother, and myself.

I was still standing near the wheelchair, my hands trembling slightly from the adrenaline of the night. I expected to simply push Mrs. Morelli back upstairs and finish my shift.

Luca walked slowly toward me. The cold, terrifying executioner completely vanished. He looked exhausted, but his dark eyes were filled with a profound, overwhelming respect.

He didn't speak to me as a boss to a maid. He dropped to his knees right on the hardwood floor, completely ignoring his expensive suit, and gently wrapped his massive arms around his mother.

"I am so sorry, Mom," Luca choked out, burying his face in her shoulder. "I should have known."

"You know now," Mrs. Morelli smiled softly, stroking his dark hair with her good hand.

Luca slowly stood up. He looked at me, the fierce, brave young woman who had risked her entire livelihood—and her life—to protect a fragile woman in the dark.

"Your job as a maid ended the second you found that Will," Luca said softly, his eyes filled with absolute gratitude.

He reached into his pocket and placed a heavy, solid black titanium keycard into my trembling hand.

"You are moving out of the servant's quarters tonight," Luca vowed, the absolute power of his massive wealth backing every syllable. "I am elevating you to the Director of Household Operations. I am quadrupling your salary, providing a private suite, and you will have full authority over this estate. You are no longer the hired help. You are family."

Tears of pure, unadulterated relief and joy spilled down my cheeks. I gently hugged Mrs. Morelli, who was finally smiling a genuine, beautiful smile.

The dark shadows of cruelty were permanently banished from the estate, replaced by an empire built on absolute loyalty, undeniable courage, and perfect justice.

If you were the maid, would you have handed Isabella to the police, or was completely bankrupting her family the ultimate, perfect revenge?
