Chapter 10 - The True Heir

"I am so incredibly sorry, Clara," Dante whispered, tears finally breaking through his hardened, ruthless facade. "I never stopped looking for you. I never stopped loving you. If I had known he threatened you, I would have burned this entire city to the ground."
Clara swallowed hard, the lies of the last five years instantly washing away in the undeniable truth of his agonizing grief.
She dropped to her knees right in front of him, throwing her arms around his neck, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated relief. Dante held her fiercely against his chest, as if letting go would cause the world to end.
Minutes later, the heavy door of the armored SUV opened outside.
Sophie, still wearing her pink cardigan and missing one shoe, marched back into the house. She saw Dante holding her mother and stopped, placing her tiny hands on her hips.
"Did you beat up the bad man?" Sophie demanded fearlessly.
Dante laughed through his tears. He stood up, gently pulling Clara with him, and walked over to pick up his fierce, brave little daughter.
"I did, sweetheart," Dante smiled, kissing her blonde head. "And we are going home now."
Six months later, the nightmare was entirely over.
Julian had completely disappeared into the violent shadows of the Russian cartel. Clara and Sophie were moved into the massive, heavily guarded master suite of the estate. Dante didn't rule with a cold heart anymore; he ruled as a fiercely protective father and a devoted husband.
