Chapter 5 - The Whisper of Doubt

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, heavy tension gripped the VIP corridor.

The heavy steel doors of the service elevator slammed shut, violently cutting off Clara's desperate voice. She was gone.

Alessandro stood in the golden light of the crystal chandeliers. An extreme close-up captured his handsome face. He was a man who survived the brutal underworld by trusting his instincts, and right now, his instincts were screaming.

His expression hardened. The muscle in his jaw clenched tightly. A dark, terrifying suspicion broke through his cold, composed exterior.

"What did she just do?" Alessandro whispered softly, his dark eyes narrowing.

He didn't look at Victoria. He turned completely around and marched directly toward the massive double doors of the grand ballroom.

Victoria physically staggered backward, her heavy diamond necklace suddenly feeling like a suffocating chain. "Alessandro, wait! The ceremony hasn't started! You can't go in there!"

He completely ignored her.

Alessandro pushed the heavy doors open and stepped into the breathtaking ballroom. Hundreds of the city's most powerful, elite guests were seated in gold chairs, waiting for the wedding march to begin. Massive, state-of-the-art digital screens flanked the altar, currently displaying beautiful, romantic photos of the couple.

But Clara hadn't just brought a physical folder to the hotel.

As a senior financial analyst with master-level access to the corporate network, she had programmed a timed, automated override on the hotel's entire audio-visual system.
