Chapter 1 - The Shattered Glass

The luxurious American gala ballroom was a breathtaking display of wealth, illuminated by massive crystal chandeliers that cast a warm, golden cinematic glow over the polished marble floors. Hundreds of elite guests in designer formal wear clinked glasses, the soft hum of classical music masking the dangerous undercurrents of the city’s most powerful syndicate.
Standing near the VIP balcony was Dominic. The thirty-something mafia boss was a terrifying force of nature, dressed in a flawless black suit and a crisp black shirt that perfectly framed his sharp, ruthless features.
He raised a crystal champagne flute to his lips, his cold eyes scanning the crowd.
Then, he abruptly stopped.
The heavy crystal flute slipped from his fingers. It plummeted to the marble floor, shattering into a hundred glittering pieces with a sharp, violent crash that pierced the ambient noise of the ballroom.
Dominic didn't even flinch at the sound of breaking glass. His natural breathing completely stopped. He froze, his slow eye movement locked onto the grand entrance of the ballroom.
Standing there was Natalie.
His ex-wife. The woman he had brutally cast out of his life five years ago. She looked incredibly beautiful, wearing an elegant, form-fitting beige beaded gown that caught the chandelier light. But it wasn't her dress that made the blood freeze in the mafia boss's veins.
"Natalie," Dominic breathed out, his voice completely breathless, stripped of all its lethal authority.
