Chapter 3 - The Ghost Returns

Six years.

The number echoed in Dominic’s mind like a physical gunshot. Six years ago, there was only one woman in the entire world he had ever truly loved. Her name was Elena. She was the only light in his dark, violent life, and they had been desperately, intensely in love.

But one night, exactly six years and nine months ago, Elena had completely vanished. She didn't leave a note. She didn't take any money. She simply evaporated like a ghost, leaving Dominic completely shattered and dangerously cold.

As Dominic stared at his four biological sons, a sudden movement caught the corner of his eye.

A medium close-up captured a woman freezing in the heavy oak doorway of the bathroom.

It was Elena.

She was in her early thirties now, breathtakingly elegant with her long brown hair styled in a flawless updo. She wore a sparkling lilac evening gown and a matching tailored blazer. But she wasn't smiling.

All the color violently drained from her beautiful face. Her natural micro-expressions shifted from mild annoyance at her wandering children to sheer, apocalyptic terror as she locked eyes with the terrifying mafia boss she had fled from six years ago.

"Dominic..." Elena gasped, her voice barely a breath, physically staggering backward against the doorframe.

A tight close-up focused entirely on Dominic’s face. The agonizing grief, the betrayal, and the profound, overwhelming shock violently collided in his dark eyes.
