Chapter 4 - The Protective Mother

"You left," Dominic whispered quietly, his voice a freezing, lethal blade that cut through the silence of the marble bathroom.
He didn't scream. He didn't lunge at her. He slowly stood up from his knee, towering over the room in his tailored navy suit, projecting the absolute, crushing authority of the syndicate boss.
Elena didn't cower. The sheer panic in her eyes was instantly replaced by a fierce, undeniable, and completely fearless maternal instinct.
A wide shot captured the tense, suffocating standoff. Elena stepped forcefully into the bathroom, placing her body entirely between the powerful mafia boss and the four little boys in the light blue suits.
"Boys, step away from him," Elena commanded firmly, her voice radiating absolute, protective authority. "Now."
The four identical boys immediately obeyed their mother, backing away from Dominic and hiding behind the sparkling lilac fabric of her evening gown.
"You don't get to do that," Dominic stated clinically, taking a slow, deliberate step toward her. "You don't get to hide my own sons from me. Why did you run?"
"Because you were a monster, Dominic!" Elena hissed fiercely, refusing to back down. "You were officially taking over the syndicate. You were going to war with the Rossi family! Do you think I was going to let my babies grow up in a house surrounded by armed guards and bulletproof glass? I ran to protect them from your life!"
Dominic stopped. The crushing reality of her words hit him hard. He had built an empire of blood, and she had chosen to protect their children from it.
