Chapter 8 - Only Loved

Years later, people still told the dramatic version.
The luxury medical center.
The bright corridor.
The spilled coffee.
Mara down on one knee, clutching her pregnant belly.
Celeste in the cream designer coat.
Finish your job, surrogate.
Evan standing behind her with the agreement.
Evan… stop her.
You should’ve signed.
The powerful hand grabbing Celeste’s ankle.
Dr. Adrian Vale stepping between them.
Get your foot off her. Now.
Celeste turning to argue, then recognizing him.
Evan lowering the document.
Adrian wrapping his white coat around Mara’s shoulders.
The staff straightening.
The connection no one expected.
It sounded like revenge.
And yes, part of it was.
There was satisfaction in seeing Celeste’s confidence die the moment she recognized Adrian Vale.
There was satisfaction in watching Evan realize the hospital staff no longer saw him as a husband, but as a threat.
There was satisfaction in seeing the unsigned agreement become evidence instead of a trap.
But the deeper victory was not power.
It was Mara learning that protection did not make her weak.
It was Adrian learning that saving strangers meant nothing if he kept arriving too late for his own daughter.
It was Oliver being born into a room where no one called him leverage, asset, heir, or strategy.
Only baby.
May you like
Only son.
Only loved.
